No words. Just photos of this incredible fabric shop. Hidden in between the small streets near the cathedral. Filled with fabric treasures that got my wallet down on its knees begging for mercy.

It’s crazy times around here, and I need myself some blog reading time. Now. So many things to share and so little time. Before I wish you a great week end, let me show you these beautiful baby knits from the Spanish knitting magazine “Tricotar”.

After leaving Barcelona for Costa Brava, I found a kiosk selling magazines. Rows and rows of embroidery, cross-stitch AND knitting magazines. I loved the classic knits in this <a href="http://www.tricotarencasa.com/">Tricotar</a> magazine so that’s the one that came with me home from the shelf. To my funny surprise – we established life’s many coincidences in last post didn’t we? – Inside the magazine was an interview with Laia from <a href="http://lifeinyonder.blogspot.no/2014/10/llanarium.html">Lanarium</a>!

I love these classic pastels and less-is -more designs. I also loooove the bright colours in the beach dress. No more babies for me, but it’s a good thing I have friends that still need baby knits.

Did you visit Alicia’s blog? Well today, I’ll share some pictures of <a href="http://www.llanarium.com/index.html">Llanarium</a> the yarn shop she took me to. If you are planning to visit Barcelona in the near future, I recommend a visit to this cosy little yarn shop in the middle of Barcelona’s huff and buzz’ - OK so I just invented those words, but you know what I mean, right?
<br/><br/>
Right next to Placa Catalunya in a narrow side street, you find Llanarium and its very sweet owner Laia (which is expecting her first baby). This is where Alicia took me after our initial “hellos”, and “how fun to finally meet you”! And I loved it.

There I also discovered that as much as this blog world is big, it is also small. It turns out that some of the other knitter aficionados in the shop had read the (then) most current post about my visit to Pickles (without knowing it was my blog). When they saw me walking in with the Pickles bag they were a bit surprised and began explaining how they had just read about that shop in a blog… When showing us which blog they had seen it in, it turned out…It was Life in Yonder. Life’s coincidences.

While they talked about the yarn, I took pictures and looked at all the yarn- wonder in Llanarium.

At Llanarium I also met Esther who was knitting herself a featherweight cardigan with Schachenmayr select yarn. I have read a lot about featherweight cardigan when it was a big hit on Ravelry, but never seen one in real life. Now I understand its popularity. I love the shape of it. It is a perfect summer cardigan. In fact, I loved Esther’s version of it so much that I bought the same yarn to knit one. You can see her <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Enpunto/featherweight-cardigan-2">finished cardigan</a> on Ravelry.

The photos I took does not give this shop or the nice people in it justice, but if you have time, look at this short <a href="http://vimeo.com/88802137">video presentation</a> of the shop that captures the feeling you get inside. A warm welcoming knit place. When you do so, take a notice of the man with the spectacles. His name in <a href="http://crochetmes3.blogspot.no/">Josep Mestres</a> and he is a crochet master. He makes the most <a href="http://crochetmes3.blogspot.no/2014/04/vestido-red-con-relieves-dorados.html">elegant</a> and <a href="http://crochetmes3.blogspot.no/2013/04/sesion-de-fotos-3-y-entrevista-la.html">feminine</a> crocheted designs I have ever seen. Oh, if only I had Audrey Hepburn’s body…
<br /><br />
Have a nice week end! I'm going to use the week end to read about the knitters get together at the wool factory in Sjølingstad. One day I'll go there too. I hope.

<br />
Did I show you my knew knitting bag? No, I didn’t did I. Well here it is. Besides being made with gorgeous fabrics bought at my favourite fabric store in Barcelona (I’ll tell you about the fabric store in a later blog post), what makes it special is that it was a gift from my new friend Alicia behind the blog <a href="http://enganxetada.blogspot.no/2014/08/origami-bag-o-copiant-lua.html" target="_blank">Ganxetades</a>. She’s a blog friend that I met this summer while visiting BCN. This is the second time I meet someone in real life that I have first known through Blogland. And I must say, I feel lucky to get to know so lovely people through this place.

Did you see the beautiful detail on the shoulder strap? I love details like that. Small quirky details on simple designs.
<br />

<br />
<br />
We spent an afternoon together in Barcelona where she showed me a beautiful yarn shop, introduced me to more nice Spanish knitters and took me to my dream fabric store.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4xRqfdrfNpCQ0Yv0GBA4EZxZSbZRYlfbcDIYGcyxtPCoJwS_4icCMFBtiU6VfBE5zpooLYButHfTr-zdxc4uWGMfKQbCfYoL2w4rx0ekvZGF0wOL2eEDEwjWBF17dGaV3eLmjkULcnDQ/s1600/DSC_0112_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4xRqfdrfNpCQ0Yv0GBA4EZxZSbZRYlfbcDIYGcyxtPCoJwS_4icCMFBtiU6VfBE5zpooLYButHfTr-zdxc4uWGMfKQbCfYoL2w4rx0ekvZGF0wOL2eEDEwjWBF17dGaV3eLmjkULcnDQ/s1600/DSC_0112_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now go and take a look at all the <a href="http://enganxetada.blogspot.no/search/label/costura" target="_blank">beautiful things</a> she makes. After that come back in a day or two to see the beautiful yarn shop she showed me.
<br />
<br />
Have a nice week!

Since last, I’ve knitted (of course), bathed, eaten ice cream, spent time with old friends, met new friends, had a few GT’s, enjoyed the sun and turned 40. Yes, I am finally 40!
And so far it is working out fine.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXqu36BaqnuszaeREFzEZUEmgJ9S1yAPJCaHaynaTnePlXwC2tq3kbcku-J5X4QIVw7w0JYsoF8OHLA4A6qFD-JQmKk4Myh_LfSypgBF22mhMq7ZdqbDYoRl8kIjdiEXolg6-LDxIwAi0/s1600/IMG_8350_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXqu36BaqnuszaeREFzEZUEmgJ9S1yAPJCaHaynaTnePlXwC2tq3kbcku-J5X4QIVw7w0JYsoF8OHLA4A6qFD-JQmKk4Myh_LfSypgBF22mhMq7ZdqbDYoRl8kIjdiEXolg6-LDxIwAi0/s1600/IMG_8350_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
My once a upon gospel choir- and high school friend <a href="http://www.fineart.no/kunstner/anja-cecilie-solvik">Anja</a> gave me this beautiful lithography for my birthday. She is a talented, beautiful, generous and inspiring soul. Not afraid to live life and not afraid to be who she is …or perhaps her true bravery, is to be who you are despite of being afraid. Well, that’s her.
<br/><br/>
If you live near the Oslo area, I recommend visiting the art gallery she founded in 2008 “<a href="http://pikenevedbroen.squarespace.com/">Pikene ved broen</a>”, to see some of the beautiful art she makes and the beautiful work by other talented artists.
<br/><br/>
Before I begin to share my knits and photos with you this fall I would just like to say welcome back and “Drink your tea with tenderness”.

It´s summer time and vacation time. The blog is also taking a vacation while I will be busy doing as little as possible, enjoying time with my family and friends. Looking forward to see you again in September.
<br/><br/>
Until then, enjoy these photos from our visit to the west coast.
<br/><br/>
I wish each and every one of you a good summer!

I couldn’t wait beginning to knit with my newly purchased yarn. In case you didn’t read my last post it is Pickles angora. Cut angora. This is important if you care for the welfare of the animals, which I do.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I’ve chosen the Pickles pattern “Knæsj Cardigan” or “Mardi Cardi” in English. My version of the cardigan shall be named “The paradox cardigan” since I have chosen the less “knæsj” colour (“knæsj” means something very colourful or with strong colour) in the whole Pickles shop.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I was afraid that this jacket would take a looong time because the yarn is very thin, but knitting with needles sized 4mm makes this project go fast even if it is a grown up size. So fast that when I should have switched needle size from 3.5 mm to 4 mm after the ribbing was done, I forgot. Now I have to undo until I reach the ribbing, switch to 4 mm and continue.
<br/><br/>

Anyhow, it’s a perfect summer knit because it weights close to nothing and I can knit in the round (yes another knit in the round and cut jacket – I still have the other uncut though). It feels like feather and I cant wait to wear it!
<br/><br/>
Hope you are enjoying summer so far!

I finally made it. I finally made it to this candy shop for knitting folks, the Pickles shop. And with that, my “knitting only from my stash” attempt has had a little set back. However, the only one who knows this is me… and you.

I could have spent a lot more time and money than I did. Fortunately or misfortunately depending on how you see it, I had to be quick about my visit, since mr. Yonder and gang were waiting for me outside the shop.

After considering different projects and type of yarns and colours (there are so many beautiful colours), I ended up with several skeins of Pickle Angora. I think I will knit it into something for me. If I do, it will be my second ego knit in less than a year.

What’s on your needles? Do you drop knitting completely because of sunny days and warmer temperatures? Do you have other activities you prefer in summertime? Or have you begun preparing the wardrobe for fall and winter?

So what do you do when you are finished knitting a jacket in the round that needs to be cut? And you are terrified. Well of course, you are absolutely right: you begin binding of threads on your previous project. The one you didn’t think you’ll ever finish.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizFjCMfaKOprdxgTLeP3I3K6YCzztGYl5LPbAu8pfqx4xZwc-KCtUP9UvDANfFn7x60tC2BXfSFC6TyQr1nI7lejraGLpS_Gm4w7zOIieh2WfmunUB14wEpNbKbPfVRwNIGZNCIMwN_o0/s1600/DSC_0328_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizFjCMfaKOprdxgTLeP3I3K6YCzztGYl5LPbAu8pfqx4xZwc-KCtUP9UvDANfFn7x60tC2BXfSFC6TyQr1nI7lejraGLpS_Gm4w7zOIieh2WfmunUB14wEpNbKbPfVRwNIGZNCIMwN_o0/s1600/DSC_0328_rez.jpg" /></a></div>

Procrastination is a perfect fear-managing tool. Besides it goes hand in hand with “finishitis” and “startitis”. Because you always need a knit, and if you are procrastinating one project you either have to finish an older one or begin a new one.Anne Mariehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08724776486851350879noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2302981936196609202.post-38567347028662964312014-05-31T07:49:00.000+02:002014-05-31T07:49:00.586+02:00Knit and cut<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br/><br/>
The waves are coming along. Slowly but steady. It’s the first time I knit a jacket in the round. With purl stitches in the middle as a guideline for where I need to cut.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy4EI9a7J3ImHlWkqhW1DF0i1PXDkYImglNyChrnsYlkedHVS6KeFJvOlXJuPK_wQRzjpCAefo3F9_Xt_Y8K5etm7Z2YEa2Q8U_54T2rnPdi3KL09sGUYK13YGc_Fsm9ZZkyVzlUOTTgk/s1600/DSC_0061_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy4EI9a7J3ImHlWkqhW1DF0i1PXDkYImglNyChrnsYlkedHVS6KeFJvOlXJuPK_wQRzjpCAefo3F9_Xt_Y8K5etm7Z2YEa2Q8U_54T2rnPdi3KL09sGUYK13YGc_Fsm9ZZkyVzlUOTTgk/s1600/DSC_0061_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I’ll begin on the arms tonight and almost hope they take me a while because I am terrified at the thought of cutting into the knit. I need someone to hold my hand while I do this. Yes, I am serious. You have no idea how serious I am. Just go ahead laugh.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh56J4YeVMe9fMpRzP7ZPCld2Pms034JeOd4GnXxWw-hQt2xpV7NirB5Q2nux8TPCWGAeXTyrKzLOuqm3WqbIFCuIzHiW_aYuebEY7u3rTApLFOeJmQ_H-43EuJzAxq0iy_oBIMQTNtzcw/s1600/DSC_0054_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh56J4YeVMe9fMpRzP7ZPCld2Pms034JeOd4GnXxWw-hQt2xpV7NirB5Q2nux8TPCWGAeXTyrKzLOuqm3WqbIFCuIzHiW_aYuebEY7u3rTApLFOeJmQ_H-43EuJzAxq0iy_oBIMQTNtzcw/s1600/DSC_0054_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I vision two scenarios. One where I cut the jacket, everything goes wrong and I end up in tears, frustration, and lots of wasted yarn and time. The other scenario is much jollier. I come back and write a whole post about how silly I am and how ridiculous easy cutting a knit is and how everyone should be doing it. She who waits will see.

It’s time for a cheerful spring knit. This time I have chosen a wool & cotton yarn from my stash. I am still working on my stash reduction. Longing to buy new yarn in spring colours, but doing with what I have.
Once more, I turn to the Danish designer Samsøe.
<br />

<br />
I love her clean and simple knitting designs.The wave jacket is a perfect left over yarn project. And also a good stash buster since the main colour recalls for 200-250g depending on the size. I’m left with less knitting time but with a few knit minutes here and a few knit minutes there it will be done.
<br />
<br />
In case you are wondering, the fall coat and I have taken a little break. Has that happened to you? That you are almost reaching the finishing line and the air goes out of you? I mean, we are talking about perhaps an hours’ worth of knitting and I would be done… Ready to indulge in warm wool. Instead, there it is in the unfinished pile. Glaring at me. I’m just going to glare back. At least for now :-)
<br />
<br />
Hope you are having a nice week so far. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAx-oasNeJ3hfSzWvx-XahqrYqrVDiJ-oizXWguKI665NqAUmjmv0C7VedH6G0DINrQvjoBzjQq7C9_O6ev9bEpnCKESrDnhw7RaalCFRVPj-9TmA-O85T5rRxsdG1uyWz31lRDl70cX8/s1600/DSC_0316_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAx-oasNeJ3hfSzWvx-XahqrYqrVDiJ-oizXWguKI665NqAUmjmv0C7VedH6G0DINrQvjoBzjQq7C9_O6ev9bEpnCKESrDnhw7RaalCFRVPj-9TmA-O85T5rRxsdG1uyWz31lRDl70cX8/s1600/DSC_0316_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I’am almost finished with the fall coat from Pickles. This is my first ego-knit ever, beside hats and scarfs. If you read last post, you know that I am binding off with i-cord. At first, I thought it was a bit tricky and time consuming. Now that I have the hang of it, I love it and I don’t understand what I was fuzzing about.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4wya_aQjibvJHICe8_tndsmc_5Ei_-GnEWBKalu3-frnHPETcWmbVT4AKQlgJ1M36zZ3X7FNXVLPk5pzzB7wZP2PO3p5MbXi1F5kubOAtgDcljGWSkv5QFeBEXk2jk249r__-TcY2GF0/s1600/DSC_0322_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4wya_aQjibvJHICe8_tndsmc_5Ei_-GnEWBKalu3-frnHPETcWmbVT4AKQlgJ1M36zZ3X7FNXVLPk5pzzB7wZP2PO3p5MbXi1F5kubOAtgDcljGWSkv5QFeBEXk2jk249r__-TcY2GF0/s1600/DSC_0322_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I still have some i-cord frustrations though, because I have had to do and re do the I-cord cast off two times. Both times for the same reason. The first time I casted off, it looked great on the front pieces of the coat, where I have knitted garter stitch. However, on the back piece of the coat, which is knitted in stockinet stitch, the coat-end rolled up. Therefore, I undid the i-cord and knitted two rounds in garter stitch on the back piece before I casted off with i-cord again.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaWKXwnb_jHaQr83EvbrZ17Zavr8rSm3FYpcm3IA4ONOt2LGlobrJpIDOIxo9nHNMOPKtglteuaRSxwQwVoMJ9YWL-U-P-i25sV7QXJfKJykIsKrJx4EP9hd1UVEH9GfXNO9t472LQeac/s1600/DSC_0322_w+text.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaWKXwnb_jHaQr83EvbrZ17Zavr8rSm3FYpcm3IA4ONOt2LGlobrJpIDOIxo9nHNMOPKtglteuaRSxwQwVoMJ9YWL-U-P-i25sV7QXJfKJykIsKrJx4EP9hd1UVEH9GfXNO9t472LQeac/s1600/DSC_0322_w+text.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
This time it looks better but the back piece still rolls up a bit. Now I am undoing the i-cord cast off, for a second time. I have a vague idea or memory that I might have read about this problem on a blog…but I can’t remember which one (...I even think I made a comment and thanked for the tip).
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnFf3mGBrGo4XT1eZD3FGeXYOKSRz8Qmb0AjsIqJ8zSOYLi9DynuImryp7PyNzao-00tb-vs9B_ICiG9Lvu6ibqIJOx7ElbmEk-FgueacCXVICTG2kVEUFqfVqLKxX0_nBmliBL12ReHI/s1600/H%C3%B8stjakka_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnFf3mGBrGo4XT1eZD3FGeXYOKSRz8Qmb0AjsIqJ8zSOYLi9DynuImryp7PyNzao-00tb-vs9B_ICiG9Lvu6ibqIJOx7ElbmEk-FgueacCXVICTG2kVEUFqfVqLKxX0_nBmliBL12ReHI/s1600/H%C3%B8stjakka_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
Anyhow, now I am not sure what to do. Should I knit a few more rounds with garter stitch on the back part before I cast off with i-cord for a third time? Or perhaps there is another way of doing i-cord cast off than then one I used (I followed the instructions on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOWKmRpfwgY">this video</a> from Drops Garnstudio)?

Whatever I do, this time it must work. I do not think I could undo the cast off a third time. Hints and help are very welcome if you think or know what may help.

<br/><br/>
Ironically enough, I began knitting the <a href="http://www.pickles.no/fall-coat/">fall coat</a> from Pickles during spring. It is in fact the warmest spring in years. We have had amazing (summer) temperatures these last two weeks. 20c in April is not common around here. The nice weather has definitely influenced my knitting time, which has been reduced to a minimum. Not only because of the weather but mostly because of it.

<br/><br/>
I have spent the last days outdoors, in the garden with my family and with what must be among Oslo’s most helpful, friendly and super neighbourhoods. The children play together in the back yard and when they eventually fall asleep in their beds after a long day, the grownups rest their behinds while sipping wine and sharing good conversations. I love my neighbourhood.

Now the weather is back to normal again and I need to pick up the needles to finish the coat. I am having some struggles with the i-cord bind off. I might ventilate my frustration and ask for help in a day or two (just have to try once more on my own first).

We are enjoying the last day of this year’s Easter holiday. For once, after we had children, we were supposed to spend Easter in a cabin I can rent through my work place. But, yours truly managed to reserve the cabin for the wrong weekend! Can you imagine the joy and laughter when I told the other three family members that we were not going to a cabin after all (well it’s more like the other two, because Andreas didn’t understand much of it). Well try… Not fun.

<br/><br/>
Fortunately, city Easter has not been bad at all. The city is never as quiet and calm as during Easter and the sun has blessed us with its warm rays every day. We have gone for long walks, worked in the garden, read books, listened to Easter radio shows (“Påskelabyrinten” and “Radioteaterets Påskekrim”), played games and had Easter dinner with good neighbours. Oh, and of course, the Easter bunny came with Easter eggs filled with chocolate and candy (how could I forget to mention that).

If you would like to see more photos from our Easter, visit me on Instagram <a href="http://instagram.com/lifeinyonder">#lifeinyonder</a>. I finally made the Insta leap. I don’t now how I didn’t do this sooner? I love photos. Of course I should have joined Insta sooner. Anyhow better late than never.

How was your Easter week? Were you in the city, in the mountain or by the coast?
What makes it Easter for you?

Finally Friday again! Although I should not complain. I have worked from home today, which means I can enjoy one of my favourite teas while I read, and write and re-write until the documents I am working on are as I think they ought to be.

I am enjoying the silence and the sunlight. The ticking from the wall hanging kitchen clock. The birch outside my kitchen window, which is full of buds ready to burst into green leaves. I am longing for spring.

<br /><br />
This is another left over yarn project. The collector sweater is for Andreas so he can put his small treasures found when playing outdoors in his pocket. The pocket is big enough for him to put small treasures in it and small enough for him not to fill the house with them.
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjErDQLRddq5Tpw-nUFIK0E9YoD6gUnWK1evkxLCRoIbhVgPMDQjB3-i6tP5k_gFpiksXL_S4nRdFIVJbz66Gpl7wursy_15_-ZyEU2JBVkRl1lMo0hm4KuvPgera3C02jO9ya9DAFA6h8/s1600/Busy+boy+sweater.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjErDQLRddq5Tpw-nUFIK0E9YoD6gUnWK1evkxLCRoIbhVgPMDQjB3-i6tP5k_gFpiksXL_S4nRdFIVJbz66Gpl7wursy_15_-ZyEU2JBVkRl1lMo0hm4KuvPgera3C02jO9ya9DAFA6h8/s1600/Busy+boy+sweater.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It is knitted with the very last left over Gjestal yarn that I used to both <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/LifeinYonder/b19-3-jumper-with-stripes-dots-and-raglan-sleeves-pants-and-socks-in-fabel">this</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/LifeinYonder/b19-3-jumper-with-stripes-dots-and-raglan-sleeves-pants-and-socks-in-fabel-3">this</a> sweater. I have never knitted pockets on garments before (it is not part of the pattern), but I enjoy learning new things so searching around the web to learn how to knit pockets was fun.

It took me a few attempts to get the pocket the way I wanted (I wanted the rib of the pocket to be diagonal), but nothing too difficult or discouraging. Doing and redoing is part of the learning experience, right? These are the different <a href="http://www.knitsimplemag.com/node/78">tips and tricks</a> I found in case you want to see them as well.

Have a nice week!

I do need to de-stash my yarn baskets. That is this springs mission. A big clean up. And honestly I am not doing too bad (padding myself on the shoulder). In 2008 I made <a href="http://lifeinyonder.blogspot.no/2008/01/enda-et-kirsebr-another-cherry.html" target="_blank">The Cherry Scarf</a> by Helga Isager with thin Alpaca from Du Store Alpakka. It was one of the first things I knitted, and the first thing I knitted for myself. It’s knitted with double threads which gives the scarf a nice density and weight to it. I’m also positively surprised with how well the scarf looks after years of use.

I had a skein and some more left of the blue colour in my basket, (the left over pink/scarlet was used to make <a href="http://lifeinyonder.blogspot.no/2013/10/bella.html">this</a> Bella) and decided to make a vest for Andreas since he has grown out of the others he has.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4nvoNec2KZ2DX9z9xKeVXeGHZMh4_ZWwNqLdUuhnBfIdZ4m6zxuTkRHsC5r54KSMtKnUBdup1JWY7oeut3quPjYGgltnyzPsL-KIawh0IfyBH6HazjPjzPzg3kLqcRqI_fi5T4G9cyXs/s1600/DSC_0125_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4nvoNec2KZ2DX9z9xKeVXeGHZMh4_ZWwNqLdUuhnBfIdZ4m6zxuTkRHsC5r54KSMtKnUBdup1JWY7oeut3quPjYGgltnyzPsL-KIawh0IfyBH6HazjPjzPzg3kLqcRqI_fi5T4G9cyXs/s1600/DSC_0125_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
Vests are my absolutely all-time favourite garment for busy children. They are perfect for the Norwegian springs and falls, when it’s too hot to wear a sweater when your are in the sun, and too cold to not wear a sweater when in the shadow. The vest however is perfect, neither too cold nor too hot either way.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmr7EEtjhlfH8APG37KENLRMM5yCBo1DM1cdCwnF7P1Wcqcl8H4SE8cgAJAJwzutNHMyjFhTMxEztbyR4brM7NA8CvrPXsj856X4zx2_amQD7LiPvC3OD25g17y3x4qISrPmDjpWGC1jo/s1600/DSC_0124_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmr7EEtjhlfH8APG37KENLRMM5yCBo1DM1cdCwnF7P1Wcqcl8H4SE8cgAJAJwzutNHMyjFhTMxEztbyR4brM7NA8CvrPXsj856X4zx2_amQD7LiPvC3OD25g17y3x4qISrPmDjpWGC1jo/s1600/DSC_0124_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
As you can see I ran out of blue when there were only a centimetre and a half left of the neck line. A few lines of grey Alpakka saved me from having to rip up the vest and begin all over. Not perfect, but it works.

<br/><br/>
March is going to be a busy month, and my knitting time is reduced to a minimum.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh21OemebZvRTlmyZ3fduEGqpTjIMl2v6kKcDNmwUA3h2wSI4valyucmdlwUut_HwdiSkdyUszdGjsRojsLFXqZKxpNNejGMsnY5U_skuSXcNz5lGZ5InnBiIufz355FetLGlIWqQxaZaA/s1600/DSC_0163_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh21OemebZvRTlmyZ3fduEGqpTjIMl2v6kKcDNmwUA3h2wSI4valyucmdlwUut_HwdiSkdyUszdGjsRojsLFXqZKxpNNejGMsnY5U_skuSXcNz5lGZ5InnBiIufz355FetLGlIWqQxaZaA/s1600/DSC_0163_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I have three projects in my basket. Two that are hibernating while the latest one is this left over yarn striped sweater. It’s the same pattern as <a href="http://www.lifeinyonder.blogspot.no/2013/05/buttons-are-found.html">here</a> and <a href="http://www.lifeinyonder.blogspot.no/2014/01/stripes-for-cousin-k_28.html">here</a>, but with a difference in how the stripes are distributed. Knitting the same pattern several times makes it easier to be spontaneous when it comes to how the colour changes should be. I like that.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWkfs79_Luau-rE5Wnwn4CprmgIgQHA0tHeqjDsQKge_9RtAhnxC4uJFnU1AWkGfP1xIVs-XFouUj1CzfFX0vXpVdDlZ_trDyJvJQvx_-GlKcLjQiIOHljHJHqkjX0fDi8tvFp1mJMLk/s1600/DSC_0013_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQWkfs79_Luau-rE5Wnwn4CprmgIgQHA0tHeqjDsQKge_9RtAhnxC4uJFnU1AWkGfP1xIVs-XFouUj1CzfFX0vXpVdDlZ_trDyJvJQvx_-GlKcLjQiIOHljHJHqkjX0fDi8tvFp1mJMLk/s1600/DSC_0013_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I am a typical follow-the-pattern-exactly- knitter, so this is a much needed exercise. Trusting my instincts and taking a chance. That goes for other parts of my life as well, but perhaps more so when knitting because I am less experienced.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwLnOsmsb9K1hKk1NVnbknrMzM9t9MXi6FWgAZn_vL6zf5FjWBks9Jjuy3c7c_SKxeEayMNm3CPlXXq9wQzF8ZAOCblwC2saTFXTVkOoasmWtTIpKfeiA4fG_DiuTLU3UTI8o4uk48TQ/s1600/DSC_0169_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFwLnOsmsb9K1hKk1NVnbknrMzM9t9MXi6FWgAZn_vL6zf5FjWBks9Jjuy3c7c_SKxeEayMNm3CPlXXq9wQzF8ZAOCblwC2saTFXTVkOoasmWtTIpKfeiA4fG_DiuTLU3UTI8o4uk48TQ/s1600/DSC_0169_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
Besides knitting, the never-ending cloudy weather is beginning to affect our energy levels. I am beginning to wonder if the sun will ever appear again. I mean ever.
<br/><br/>

<br />
<br />
And while you drumroll in front of your screen I’ll tell you how I did the draw…
I made a list where everyone’s comment were given a number, and then depending on how many tickets each of you opted for you received an additional number(s). I used the random number generator to make the draw.
<br />
<br />
The first number I drew was actually one that belonged to my own comment, so I had to push the “Generate” button again, and viola, number 48 turned up.
<br />

Look at the beautiful yarn I received in my mailbox a couple of days ago! In the end of January, Anne over at “<a href="http://frokenfargerik.blogspot.no/2014/01/1-ars-jubileum-100-innlegg-og-give-away.html">Frøken Fargerik</a>” (Mrs. Colourful) celebrated one year of blogging and had a secret surprise giveaway. I didn’t win the first price, but I won the consolation price.

<br />
I received three skeins of Iris Alpakka from Rauma and one skein of Abuelita Three Ply merino wool (*love*). Aren’t they beautiful! She must know me because I absolutely love the colours of the yarn she sent me. I also received lovely tea. Some I have already taken with me to work and a few tea bags I kept at home for knitting moments like now.
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
The Iris alpaca is different from other alpaca yarns I have knitted with before; it reminds me of mohair yarn in texture. I haven’t knitted with flurry yarn in a while, but I have seen other knitters combine flurry yarn with non-flurry wool. Perhaps I could combine it with grey merino wool. What do you think? If you have any experience with this or suggestions, I would be very grateful.
<br />
<br />

This weekend we went to Bergen to attend the christening of my nephew C. N. Which means that I can show you photos of the last minute knitted christening gift.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRZxZNC2I9KjDDfbnWh18RqpBAMBMlLvYA4P0UKnpngPBH0RNgBqZhzWT9_NyfLDEFN8F9PL2Ov0DLRbcHZAuJwxx_qny56J2bXGPDsRIn_r0O84KfrEfNo8KzXmE9RKPJ9qtV2wfBqy4/s1600/DSC_0294_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRZxZNC2I9KjDDfbnWh18RqpBAMBMlLvYA4P0UKnpngPBH0RNgBqZhzWT9_NyfLDEFN8F9PL2Ov0DLRbcHZAuJwxx_qny56J2bXGPDsRIn_r0O84KfrEfNo8KzXmE9RKPJ9qtV2wfBqy4/s1600/DSC_0294_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I haven’t done a lot of stranded colour-work knitting before (to be honest it intimidates me), and it is noticeable. My floats – the gaps between the sections of pattern – are not loose enough to keep the work from puckering. As a result, it looks uneven. So on my next stranded knitting project I need to make the floats looser to prevent this.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjxikR4vVryO0K5I97z6Xw1ARTBbQQmlYikwwP9b9Epj97nuR4Q8s3-ADkw4r4_xcrexjxUcGk3JQ7DJas37raXYYkwg91UjPdaQqFh9mVHyowxqE1M9y3CiOHDFYGosf7Tzrx09NCL18/s1600/Strikkefakta_Harlekin.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjxikR4vVryO0K5I97z6Xw1ARTBbQQmlYikwwP9b9Epj97nuR4Q8s3-ADkw4r4_xcrexjxUcGk3JQ7DJas37raXYYkwg91UjPdaQqFh9mVHyowxqE1M9y3CiOHDFYGosf7Tzrx09NCL18/s1600/Strikkefakta_Harlekin.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
All though the pattern is not intricate, it is not the easiest. On certain places, the floats strand across 15 stitches. Knitting <a href="http://littlecottonrabbits.typepad.co.uk/my_weblog/2013/05/knitting-tips-fairisle-colourwork.html">guru’s</a> usually recommend to not strand floats across more than seven stitches, but I think that five stitches are within my skill & comfort zone.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji5-Qem1tYdMy_Ius3K46PWvyk859_Uc4IAt5mrJVlUyXrwPvaKb78iGD-3YJXtI9d0NxQXYmr0T427uDYNh7I-IwsYutndJyKeVvwxmodJO_85k0Jyjyb6Qf52UKsQKpSL4DKUrFBalw/s1600/DSC_0363_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji5-Qem1tYdMy_Ius3K46PWvyk859_Uc4IAt5mrJVlUyXrwPvaKb78iGD-3YJXtI9d0NxQXYmr0T427uDYNh7I-IwsYutndJyKeVvwxmodJO_85k0Jyjyb6Qf52UKsQKpSL4DKUrFBalw/s1600/DSC_0363_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
If you have to strand floats for more than seven stitches you should catch the floats in the centre of the span. I did this, what I didn’t know is that if you catch up your floats on the very same place on succeeding rows this can lead to banding on the front work. If you look closely, you can see some of those bands (looks like vertical stripes/gaps) in the photos.

On the more sunny side of matters (by the way, out of 47 days in 2014 we - Oslo inhabitants - have only had three days of sun) I love the colours I used. If I knit the sweater again, I think I would choose the same colours… Actually, I ought to knit it again soon to practice long and loose floats. …and many other places as well of course. Knitting is what makes time fly while traveling. It is what keeps my blood pressure at healthy levels while I am waiting in lines at airports or when there is a delay. I am not a knit walker yet but definitely a knit stander. I can stand and knit just about anywhere. I knit on the metro (T-banen) on my way to work and I knit on the playground while the children are absorbed by their own play and of course in the car when mr. Yonder drives (but then I sit).

This however is my favourite knitting nook at home.

My knitting sofa spot has good light for those dark Norwegian afternoons during fall and winter. I have a table to rest my feet on and to put my -must have certain things close by - like the iphone, mini-ipad (in case I need to take a quick look in Ravelry), knitting tools and the essential cup of tea.
<br />
<br />
One of the things I miss from before having children is reading books (actual paper books). To mend the gap between what I love to do and the time I have available, I listen to audiobooks while knitting. Right now, I am listening to the Cukoo’s calling by Robert Calbrath.

At my left (while sitting in the sofa), I have a black bag with all the current knitting projects and yarns, and like any other respectable knitter I have several other yarn stashes placed strategically around the house. Some yarn stash is in our living room upstairs and the rest of the yarn is in baskets in our living room downstairs. In case you wonder, we have an ongoing forever-lasting argument in this house hold on how much space I am supposed to have dedicated to yarn.

<br/><br/>
This spring, when I first got the idea of making leather tags with initials on I began searching on internet for shops that would ship tools to Norway. To my surprise, the tools were not as highly priced as I first had imagined. However, once I added the shipping, which was much more pricy than I could ever imagine, I postponed the whole project.
<br/><br/>
Then some time before leaving for my mum alone vacation in September I began searching for leather shops in Barcelona. After hours of searching on the net, I found a shop that looked promising, wrote down the address and crossed my fingers that they would have what I needed.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTzs-BgQkLPofv9jRrKzBzFh8kYJOhQJJjIYWO6oHWaz49U-6R3b1T4XR-gRoxrSbEbNcfYspcZ6bGR3q3P0pwYFMTkB_Hm1c7xBoiOWWtYxMNLRYdIhrmOD4yCrUJ2rx8xwcXI3BfMJE/s1600/DSC_0043_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTzs-BgQkLPofv9jRrKzBzFh8kYJOhQJJjIYWO6oHWaz49U-6R3b1T4XR-gRoxrSbEbNcfYspcZ6bGR3q3P0pwYFMTkB_Hm1c7xBoiOWWtYxMNLRYdIhrmOD4yCrUJ2rx8xwcXI3BfMJE/s1600/DSC_0043_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
I reserved an entire day just to find the place, which was unnecessary since it’s quite easy to find once you have the address. After a walk through the city there it was. A beautiful old store, with tall heavy doors, dark wooden furniture, marked by wear and tear during I don’t know how many decades.
<br/><br/>
It looks old, smells old and I can just imagine how this shop must have thrived in it’s glorious days, when most people still made their own belts, bags, coin holders, purses and everything else beautiful that can be made out of leather.
<br/><br/>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_aIHWpxKoQUhmpSzNkS8JwqzpsVvaA4D_CcNCsM70CnNmYob1JaswosAoY45P1Sp9l6vQLHykb10ue9WgGQm5mNyv9IXxoJg3-_099SVwRRZnoUZ1e5tCV0v9hHWZsIlcATMC8JZOUDU/s1600/DSC_0050_rez.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_aIHWpxKoQUhmpSzNkS8JwqzpsVvaA4D_CcNCsM70CnNmYob1JaswosAoY45P1Sp9l6vQLHykb10ue9WgGQm5mNyv9IXxoJg3-_099SVwRRZnoUZ1e5tCV0v9hHWZsIlcATMC8JZOUDU/s1600/DSC_0050_rez.jpg" /></a></div>
<br/><br/>
Just as I entered the shop I tried to take a photo of a row of old suitcase locks, which I shouldn’t have done… Because seconds after, a petite lady with short hair and strict eyes behind thin glasses came out of nowhere and told me that it was strictly forbidden to take photos (she looked like the kind of lady you would want to be very obedient to). And right that moment I saw the sign that said “No photography!” Yay, for making good first impressions!

Fortunately, the same lady asked me if she could be of any help, and she could. After I explained what I wanted to make she found several different tools for me to choose from. She also showed me the different types of leathers they had.

My favourite discovery was a big box of leather scraps in all kinds of colours sold by the weight. I chose my tools and as she weighed the leather, I asked the leather shop lady if she would please let me take a photo while she was weighing the leather. To my luck, she tilted her head to one side, broke out in a big smile and said in a patiently and forgiving voice, “OK then, go ahead, and take your photo” (“Venga, vaaale, haz tu foto”). So there you have it, the hands of the leather shop lady, which was a cute softy after all. She made my day.

<br />
Welcome back to a new week in a new month! This weekend I visited my hometown for an all-girls weekend, with opera, cava and a three-course dinner in a fancy restaurant.
<br />
<br />
I managed to do some airport knitting while on my way to the west coast. It should have been another thin wool sweater, but I am out of time. In two weeks we have another Christening (cousin C.), and I need a fast knit so I am sure to finish it in time for the sweater to be part of the gift. I’ll let you in on the knitting facts as soon as I am done with it. But for now, let’s just say that knitting a baby sweater on 4mm needles is as fast as it gets and will do the trick.

<br />
I arrived in Kristiansund just in time to get a last but good glimpse of the sun before it went behind the horizon of houses. After three weeks of cloudy and snowy weather in Oslo, those sun glimpses were a joy and very needed and appreciated.

<br />
My hometown Kristiansund has a long and strong tradition for Opera. In 1928, the composer Edvard Bræin opened the premiere of Gluck’s “Orfeus & Euridike”. This was 32 years before The Norwegian Opera was established in Oslo! (*very proud, thank you very much*). Since then the interest of Opera has developed in the city, and now it has its yearly <a href="http://www.visitkristiansund.com/en/Product/?TLp=459720&Operafestival-in-Kristiansund">Opera Festival</a>. You can listen to one of Edvard Bræins beautiful compositions <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlTceviClEQ">here</a>.
<br />
<br />
We had ticket for the operetta “Die Fledermaus” (The bat) by Johan Strauss II. A fun operetta, filled with secrets, intrigues and beautiful music.
